Please Sponsor My Friend, Kim, on the AIDS Ride
As many of you know, in 1991, I lost my younger brother, Rob, to AIDS, after a long and painful struggle. He was 38 years old. That was 18 years ago, but I still often daydream about what life would be like if he were here with us today.
Rob was just one of 550,000 Americans we have lost to this ugly disease. Worldwide, the figure is more than 20 million- a number I find hard to imagine.
Today more than a million people in our country, includng 10,000 children, are living (and living longer) with the virus. But the estimated cost of medicine and treatment for each one is $20,000 a year! This is the 8th year the AIDS Lifecycle Ride will raise millions of dollars to help defray the high cost of needed services for those living with AIDS, and pay for prevention and education programs as well.
The commitment of AIDS Lifecyle is to continue the ride until we put an end to AIDS. My personal commitment this year is to ride every mile and to raise at least $3,000 in donations to help alleviate the suffering.
I am asking you to make a commitment as well, a financial one. Please consider contributing as much as you can to help me reach my goal. And whether you decide to give $25, $500, or something in between, know that I am riding for all of us- for all our brothers and sisters affected by this disease directly, and those affected because loved ones are infected. I expect this to be an emotional week for me, but an empowering one. I'd like to know that all of you are riding all 545 miles with me in spirit!!
Thank you so much for your heart and your help. (Directions to make a donation on the AIDS Lifecyle website are below.)
